"Route Analytics Management System" is an add-on to HP's OpenView Network Node Manager. It completely replaces the current OSPF solution of the NNM and breaks new ground in the visualization and monitoring of dynamically routed networks. This Product Analysis explains the functionality of the system, integration in HP OpenView and presents opportunities to raise the operating security of your network infrastructure.
Current network management systems are still working on a SNMP basis and ignore the information which is transported in the routing protocols. Therefore, they are not capable to recognize or diagnose instabilities on IP traffic routes, such as Adjacency Flaps or specialties of the routing processes, such as Load Sharing, promptly.
Now with RAMS it becomes possible to represent routing structures in the Network Node Manager and to react to changes or to diagnose the cause for violations of service quality agreements close to real-time. The system establishes on the basis of this information a real-time analysis of the network environment and a visualization of the network on layer 3. Because all data are stored for analysis, planning and demonstration purposes, in addition, evaluations and visualizations of past configurations can be used in fault analysis. In fact, even planning games with failed routers or changed path costs become possible. So, planning guidelines for routing processes can be verified, tested and if necessary corrected without impeding productive operation.
